Lots of time in advance to monitor advisories from over there. I've seen premade commercial editions of the same thing.I live in a no tornado/avalanche zone where nothing dangerous is headed my way.
The advantage of this one is the lower price. And a myriad "ambient weather" antennas all work with these radios. The RCA jack is standard many of these.
The jack on Midland radios (such as WR-100) are the normal standard into which several external so called "ambient weather" warning devices can be plugged.AAA batts, AA batts, AC mains, 2 million candle power police type, multiple flashing LED's, built in 25 foot long connecting wires with proper plugjack, etc. cheap old fashioned TV type) between the element and feedline, a solder or solderless RCA plug to put on the coax.
One of the more ambitious stands 20 feet high. The NOAA website has do it yourself antennas for which you buy parts and build. A very short length of 300 Ohm twinlead for the element, cable TV coax to feed element to radio, and a 300 Ohm to 75 Ohm balun (e.g.
But I might be heading into a nearby Sierra storm over the weekend. No sirens required.
i feel the strobe work's well and is an excellent upgrade to one's weather radio. Midland 18-STR Strobe Light for Weather and All Hazards Alert Radios
The alert unit itself is fine.but.when the radio sends an alert signal burst to activate, alarm does not really flash long enough.it goes out with the radio siren.it should be designed to stay activated until manually reset by whom ever as authority over the radio operation.Being a safety monitor for the complex of buildings I reside around , wx alerts are of mega importance as the businesses our system monitors also have many racks of sale merchandise normally outside of the actual store.KSMB9301
Works as described,. brilliant flash. I was surprised it would take two AAA batteries when mated with the MIDLAND WR300 Weather Radio, but overall I am pleased with this purchase. Getting ready for the Hurricane Season and Tornado Alerts.
I like it. It's a good idea. Its a shame you have to put batteries in it.
